Notes for Mary Lee
Mary Lee married Dannett Abney, Sr. in 1692 in England. Dannett married Mary before sailing to the colonies with John Lee, who had received a patent for transporting settlers to Virginia, dated 1694. Dannett was indentured to John Lee along with several others to work on his Nansemond/Suffolk, VA land. After the state line was redrawn the land is now in NC.
Mary Lee Abney was named executrix and an heir in the will of Dannett Abney, Sr. dated on February 5, 1732 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. She was to have his whole estate and if the plantation was not sold by the time of her death she was to leave it to their sons Paul and Abner Abney.
Dannett died on March 5, 1733 in Charlottesville, Spotsylvania Co.(later Albemarle), Virginia at age 75.
Mary Abney of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co., Virginia sold a tract of land to Edwin Hickman on Nov. 4, 1735, conveying 209 acres in Spotsylvania County, half a tract granted to Thomas Hill and Dannett Abney, Jr. in 1728.
Mary Lee Abney died after 21 Jul 1739. From the Abney Book: "Al some genealogists claim the widow Mary Abney died in Hanover Co., VA the author believes she died in Henrico Co., VA. Sometime between 1735 & 1739, the widow Mary Abney moved to Henrico Co., VA where two of her other sons, Abraham & George resided. On 21 Jul 1739 widow Mary Abney was a neighbor of her son George Abney in Henrico Co., VA: George Abney appointed Precessioner. He lists property adjoining "the Widow Abney". There can be on doubt that "the Widow Abney" was Mary his mother."
