Physician. Son-in-law of William Shakespeare.
John was born at Carlton, Bedfordshire, England and studied from 1589, at Queens' College, Cambridge, receiving his B.A. in 1593 and his M.A. in 1597. It is speculated that he studied medicine in France, not in England since he did not hold an English medical degree.
He was the only doctor in Stratford-upon-Avon when he established his practice. He married Susanna, William Shakespeare's daughter, on 5 June 1607. Elizabeth was their only child.
