Notes for Agnes “Anne” Hathaway
Wife of playwright and poet William Shakespeare. She was the daughter of Richard Hathaway, a Shottery farmer, who left her the farm 'at the day of her marriage' when he died in 1581. She married William Shakespeare in November 1582 and they had three children: Susanna in May 1583, followed by twins Hamnet and Judith two years later. Hamnet, the Shakespeare's only son, died in 1596 at eleven years of age.
