Notes for Andrew Johnson
jaxseprz
Andrew Johnson was NOT an "Indian Trader". He was a soldier in the American Revolution and under Col. Anthony Wayne during the Indian Wars in the upper Great Lakes. Per his pension, he was discharged at Detroit. This is where he met Elizabeth Green, who had been taken captive as a child by native Americans and later sold to John King, who WAS and "Indian Trader". King either abandoned Elizabeth or died while away. Andrew Johnson took Elizabeth back to her father's land in what is now Preston Co, where he married her. These facts can be verified through Elizabeth Green Johnson's affidavits in Monongalia Court records and the Revolutionary War Pension of Andrew Johnson.13
