Dulcinia Gorton Martin McCarty was the daughter of Robert and Mary Steele Martin. Mary Steele Martin was born in Kentucky. The 1850 Census of Cedar Township, Boone County, Missouri list Mary Martin as head of the household with three children. Therefore, her husband must have died, since a farm valued at 100 was in her name. The Steele family trace their family to Abraham LaRue, born in 1620 in France. His son Abraham LaRue, Jr., came to the U. S. around 1860, first living in New Jersey, later settling in Virginia. 1783 records show a Jacob LaRue (spelled Larew) of Fredrick County, and a Jacob LaRue of Orange County, Virginia.
Dulcinia McCarty was a Primitive Baptist and was quite a Bible student. She was born March 18, 1834 and died January 17, 1916. James William McCarty and Dulcinia Martin were married either in 1862 or 1863. They are buried in old Goshen Cemetery near Ashland, Missouri, close to Wilton, Missouri.13
