Notes for Wesley Edson
On Saturday afternoon, Feb.23rd, one of the most terrible deaths that was ever known in this vicinity occurred on the farm of Wesley Edson between this place and Plainville. The particulars are as follows: Mr. Wesley Edson and others were digging a well on his (Edson’s) farm, and had got down about 100 feet when they struck some hard substance and put in a blast; after the blast went off Mr. Edson went down in the well and when at the bottom he called to the parties at the top to pull him up as he was suffocating. They immediately startedto pull him up, but when about thirty feet up he fell from the bucket to the bottom of the well. A man was immediately sent down in the well, but found poor Edson a bruised and mangled corpse.
Mr. Edson was a young man and a well-to-do farmer and was respected by all. He leaves a wife and
three young children.
