It is said that Thomas Edson was intimately acquainted with some of the immediate kinsfolk of William Shakespeare, whose birthplace was at no great distance from Fillongley.In 1596 he married Elizabeth Copson, and to this union 7 children were born, all at Fillongley, including the direct ancestor to the Potter family, Samuel Edson, born on September 5, 1613.
