Notes for Mason Kaspar Liebst
Mason arrived in Baltimore Maryland USA on May 14,1869 with his wife and 6 boys. One son Willibald died in Germany. Another son was born to them in USA. They settled in St. Joseph, Mo where Kaspar worked as a stone mason. When he arrived here, he could not speak English. It was very hard for him to find work for this reason. He did find work first as a stone mason but because of the language barrier ended up working in the fields around the area. Kaspar died from sunstroke working in the fields. From the day Kaspar died Helena wore only black. After the death of her husband along with her sons Charles and Louis, they purchased a home on 1018 South 12th, St. Joseph, Mo. Years later Cavalry Cemetery was destroyed because of progress. Kaspar's body, along with some other family members were not moved because the family couldn't afford it.
