Jacob Edson and his second wife Sophronia Bowen Edson moved to Broome County between 1840 and 1850. They previously lived in Milford, Otsego, New York. Jacob and his brother Isacc were early settlers in an area of Milford which was called Edson Corners they came from Kenebec, Maine. Their parents and siblings came at a later date.
Jacob had the following occupations in Milford: 1796 Teacher, 1796 First Lawyer in Milford, 1812 Town Clerk, 1815-1819 Town Clerk. 1821 Path master ward #16, 1829 & 1834 Inspector of Schools, in 1836 Overseer of highways in ward #30. In 1840 he is listed as working in maufacturing or trades. He was known to be a tavern keeper and a shop keeper. In 1950 & 1860 Colesville, Broome, New York he is listed as a farmer. His wife Sophronia and daughter Adelia Edson Montgomery are also buried in Pratt Cemetery.11
