He was the son of Anthony and *Susanna (Haddon) Colby. He was christened in Boston on Sep. 8, 1633.
He married Frances Hoyt on Jan. 14, 1655, in Salisbury, Mass. After John died, Frances went on to marry John Barnard. They wed Dec. 27, 1676 in Amesbury, MA. (She died in 1720/21, her burial is still unknown)
