Notes for John Lovell
This particular John Lovell probably died in Rockingham between 1753 (founding of the town) and 1782 (founding of Rockingham Meeting House Cemetery).

Please contact the creator of this memorial if you have further information about him.

When Lyman Simpson Hayes was writing History of the Town of Rockingham, Vermont, 1753-1907, he asked elder locals what they remembered about the town's oldest cemetery. N. S. Proctor, who formerly lived on the farm closest to the First Burying Ground site, recalled seeing, as a boy in the 1850s, "one old fashioned slate head stone with the name 'John Lovell' upon it."
