Notes for George Michael Wilfong
George was the son of Johannes Wilfong and Maria Elizabeth Gruber who arrived on the English Ship, St. Andrew, John Stedman, Master. They took the "Oath of Allegiance" at the Courthouse in Philadelphia, September 12, 1734. The St. Andrew carrying mostly passengers from the Palatiante section of Germany, sailed from Rotterdam in Holland and landed at Philadelphia.
George and Sophia were married by a traveling Lutheran minister, Rev. John Casper Stoever, they lived on the Brushy Grove Homestead in Sugar Grove Township. They donated land for the Wilfong Church and Cemetery.located on their property in Sugar Grove. It is now known as St. Michaels.
George and Sophia had 14 children.
George appears on the muster roll of Capt.. George Wilson's Company August 1, 1756. He was a private in the French and Indian War and was one of the men who refused to pay taxes to Augusta County in 1787, in protest for the establishment of new county, Pendleton.11
