Note: To our knowledge, there is NO proof that Ralph Shelton Sr's wife's maiden name was Crispen.
If you have proof please do share it with us. But to date we have never found any documentation to support the name of Crispen. 11
Mary was wife of Ralph Shelton. After the death of Ralph Shelton, Mary wed a man with surname Clark, as her will * please see below citation * was made as Mary Clark. In her will she named her Shelton children {see children referenced: The Parish Register of Christ Church}.
In 1746 a Mary Clark, widow of Thomas Clark, assigned the heirs of Thomas Clark their inheritance ...... Middlesex 1740-48 wills book C page 352.

Although it may be uncomfortable to accept, Mary's maiden surname has not been proven with valid, verifiable, consistent with the time period, Bible, Church, government, court, documentation. Perhaps it is more respectful to Mary, to her husband Ralph, to her descendants, to her family of origin - whoever they were - to let her be Mary, rather than dishonor her with a surname that is speculation.11
