Notes for Martin Shelton
It is not known exactly where Martin Shelton is buried. It is thought he is in an unmarked grave on Franklin Mountain. Family stories indicate he was one of the first settlers of Madison County, NC (previously the area was Yancey County). There is a family oral history that he lived in a hollow log until he built a cabin.11
