William Brett came from Kent and purchased land in Duxbury in 1640. His wife was probably Margaret, daughter of William and Alice (Both) Ford. His son Nathaniel married Sarah, daughter of John Hayward, called "John of the Plains" to distinguish him from another John Howard, their names being pronounced alike.
