GEORGE BOWER #687 was first recorded in America as at Scituate,
Massachusetts where he became a freeman on 7 March 1636-7.
His wife was BARBARA SMITH #688 and she died on 25 March 1644.
He died between 8 November and 30 December 1656.
The Parish register of Braithwell, York County, England recorded the marriage on 9 February 1615-5 of George Bower and Barbara Smith. The marriage
license reads “George Bower, of Manby and Barbara Smith of Braythwell _____ at Braythwell. No baptism records af their children have been found there. By 1639 he was at Plymouth as he was elected a constable there on 5 March 1638-9. He purchased land there on the Eels River from Gov. Winslow. In 1640 with John Barnes he was given charge
of obtaining lumber for the new ja1l. He had 1/16 share of a ship built at Plymouth along with Edward Bangs.
About 1643 George Bower moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts where his wife died in 1644. He married his second wife, Elizabeth Worthington at Cambridge on 15 April 1649. After his death, she married Henry Bowtell on 25 June 1657. George Bower’s will was dated 8 November 1656 and proved on 30 December 1656. It did not mention his married daughter Ruth Knowles. RUTH #689, a daughter of George and Barbara Bower married RICHARD KNOWLES #685 on 15 August 1639.
