Notes for Eleazer Jewett
ELEAZER was born in Ipswich, Essex, MA and moved to Connecticut. He settled in Norwich, New London, CT. On Dec. 5, 1698, he purchased 75 acres of land near the Shetucket River. He was one of sixteen persons on the roll of accepted inhabitants, characterized as farmers, who settled in the area around the crotch of the Shetucket and Quinebaug Rivers. The area was called Lisbon.
MARY (ARMSTRONG) LAMB was the widow of Ebenezer Lamb, whom she married May 6, 1690. On May 29, 1683, Ann Lamb of New London bought from Henry Stevens of Stonington the four years unexpired time of service of her son, Ebenezer Lamb, witnessed by John Fish and Thomas Lamb (Stonington Records). He died July 21, 1694. She then married ELEAZER on Apr. 1, 1700. All of their children were born in Norwich, CT. She died on Nov. 16, 1715.
An entry in the Boston Transcript uses the first name of Sarah, widow of Ebenezer Lamb, who married ELEAZER JEWETT.
ELEAZER married second on Sep 3, 1717, Mary (Griswold) Tracy, widow of Jonathan Tracy, who was the son of Lt. Thomas Tracy. Mary had married Jonathan Tracy on Jul. 11, 1672, at the age of 15. She was the daughter of Francis Griswold of Norwich, CT, and was born in Saybrook, Middlesex, CT on Aug. 26, 1656. She died on Sep. 18, 1723.
ELEAZER "conveys to his son ELEAZER junior of Norwich all his estate in Massachusetts, and ELEAZER junior of Norwich sells land in Rowley to Joseph Barker and appears personally in Rowley Dec. 2, 1742, and acknowledges the deed."13
