The original source of the RUDDICK surname appears to be rooted in several areas of Brittania; including Ireland, Wales, and the Border areas of the Scottish/English Ridings and the Shire Cumberland back as far as the 11th century.13

One of the first settlers of the county was William Reddick, who settled early in the thirties or late in the twenties at the place since known as Elkhorn. He and his son-in-law, Samuel Burks, also an early settler, came from Illinois. Reddick was a politician and a prominent citizen. For many years he controlled the politics of the Sugar Creek settlement, and that settlement usually controlled the politics of the county.

The First Baptist society was organized in the Wiliam Ruddick home at Elk Horn Taver, the chruch was later moved and called Twelve Corners.  Pascel Martin named the Twelve Corners Church after a Twelve Corners Baptist Church in TN. Sugar Creek Post Office was extablished Jan. 7, 1837 at Elk Horn Tavern, this was the 3rd post office in the county.  On April 8, 1840 William Ruddick was appointed Post Master (1850 Census of Benton County, Ar).In Osage town ship William Ruddick was listed at 66 years old his property was valued at $2,500.00. William Ruddick probably came from Milan, TN, Gibson County Trenton is the county seat.
