Notes for Samuel Edgerly
He was one of the first who gave bond to the proprietors for settlement of Gilmanton. On 4 May 1761 he purchased from Abner Clough of Nottingham one whole right or proprietor's share in the township of Gilmanton, which was originally granted to Caleb Kimball of Exeter. On the 1st of June following he sold ½ of the same to his brother David. On 12 Apr 1768 he sold his 80 acres farm on lot #10 in Gilmanton Samuel Hatch and passed over the line into Barnstead and lived near his brother Thomas. His house stood on the ridge or swell of land east of the present (1867) residence of Enos G. Edgerly. Then again, on 30 October 1788 he exchanged farms with Hibberd Morrill of Gilmanton and again took up residence in Gilmanton, about one mile from his previous residence.13
