Notes for George Burton Crowell
"Burt", as he has been known for all of his life, loves football. He played on the high school team in Sperry, OK for one year prior to moving to Driftwood, OK. where he played for one year. He then moved to Davenport, OK where he finished High School and played for two more years. He played football in college for three years and then for two years on a semi-professional team in Mt. Vernon, OH. While playing for Mt. Vernon they beat the team from Canton, OH where professional football began. He operated a steel fabrication company, "Wichita Structural Steel" for many years before retiring in the late 1970's. He tells about how on two different occasions he walked into the shop and fired the entire crew. They weren't doing their work and were costing the company a lot of money. On one occasion, he literally went to a scrap pile of steel behind his shop and personally fabricated enough product to save the company financially. He, like all of the Crowell brothers, has always been an extremely hard worker and learned the value of a dollar. As of 1997 he is living on a 1/4 section of farmland near Douglass, Butler, KS. He leases the ground to someone who raises steers. Burt built three beautiful ponds on the property and raises his own catfish which he and other family members love to catch and eat. Went to college on a full football scholarship. There was an enrollment limit of 150 boys, most of who washed out before the end of the first semester. He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Math. Social Security Number 443-01-5979.
