John Crabtree of Broughton was a Husbandman Tenant under the Stanleys in 1583. His Will, dated June 1, 1585, was proven January 29, 1587-88. All the children, except his youngest (Margaret) were named in their father'swill. Alice, referred to as "my now wife" in his Last Will andTestament, leads us to believe that she is John's second wife and not the mother of his children.1
