Notes for Joseph Wesley Faubion
After their mother's death in 1903, Joe and his brother Eckles lived with their Broadhurst grandparents until their father remarried. When they "moved to town," Joe attended Horace Mann School in Kansas City, Kansas, and later worked for a plumbing company. He then lived in Denver, Colorado, for about a year, working for a plumbing and heating company there.
When he returned to Kansas City, he worked for the Methodist Book Concern, and that is where he met his future wife, Harriet M. Rinehart. They were married on February 25, 1931, at the home of Bishop Ernest Lynn and Mrs. Waldorf, in Jackson County, Missouri.
With the help of his stepmother, Fannie, Joe bought a poultry house in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, in 1930. In the years from 1931 to 1939, he held several jobs, but was unable to make the payments to his stepmother, who had put her house up as collateral on his loan. His brother Eckles took over the payments and was able to pay off the debt.
After selling the poultry house, Joe became the Superintendent of Municipal Utilities in Pleasant Hill until 1949, when he began to work for the hardware store. He retired in 1978.
Joe was a friendly person and well-known in town. He was a member of the volunteer fire department for 30 years; he was on the City Council; he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge; and he held several positions in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church over the years.11
