Notes for Margaret Tyndal
Daughter of Sir John Tyndall and Anne Eggerton. Wife to Governor of Mass Bay Colony John Winthrop.
∼
Parents: Sir John Tyndal(l) and Anne Eg(g)erton
She was the third wife of Governor John Winthrop of Massachusettes. Married in probably 1618 in England.
The two of them seemed to be much in love as some of their love letters have survived all these years.
When John left for America, beings she was pregnant she was left behind at Groton Hall, to sail to America the following year. She was accompanied by John's daughter-in-law and who was also his niece, Elizabeth (Fones) Winthrop, who would learn that she was a widow upon arriving in Massachusettes.
Thought John had had children by his first two wives him and Marget would have the following:
Stephen
Adam
Deane
Nathaniel
Samuel
Ann
William
Sarah
It is not known for certain where she is buried but it would be right in the Boston area where they lived.11
