Mrs. Neenan was born in 1841 in County Tipperary, Ireland, near the town of Silver Mines. Her mother died while she was but a child, and in 1850 her father, William Gleeson, came to the United States and settled at Cincinnati, Ohio, where he died in 1854. Mrs. Neenan was 11 years old when she came to America to join her father, and after his death she went to live with her aunt, Mrs. James Murphy, at Indianapolis, Indiana. She came to St. Joseph, August 1, 1860, and as stated above was married in the following year. 626
