Lt. Colonel John A. Hendricks was killed on his birthday at the Battle fo Pea Ridge, Arkansas. He was a member of the 22nd Indiana Infantry.

He attended Hanover College in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington. Before the war he worked as a lawyer. During the Mexican War he served as a Captain in the 16th U.S. Infantry.
