Notes for Nancy Louise Carr
Nancy (Carr) Carter, 60, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born May 26, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph E. and Marianne (Gier) Carr. She grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, and was a 1967 graduate of Bishop Miege High School. Between 1968 and 1972, she attended Fontbonne College, KU, UMKC, and Penn Valley. She graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in January 1981, serving as president of the student council in 1980. Nancy and her family moved to Paonia, Colorado, in 1984, where she started her own chiropractic practice. She served on the Paonia Town Council in 1987 and 1988. She also volunteered and served on the board of KVNF Public Radio of Western Colorado from 1988 to 2000. With the help of her friends, she built an off-the-grid home in the mountains of Paonia. In 2002, Nancy moved to Lawrence, Kansas. She worked at Pinnacle Career Institute in Lawrence from 2002 to 2008, serving as a teacher, Director of Education and Interim Executive Director. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Nancy was a lifelong learner, a gifted gardener, a joy-filled singer and dancer, a patient teacher and healer, an avid reader, a film buff, a creative cook, and a talented potter and writer. She enthusiastically embraced life, family and friends. She cared deeply about the environment and felt closest to God's creation in the mountains of Colorado. She unselfishly gave of herself by serving in a soup kitchen, traveling to Central America and the Dominican Republic on service trips, and caring for friends and family when they were in need. Nancy lived her life with passion and accepted her illness with grace. In one last gift of generosity, Nancy donated her body to KU Medical Center for Research.
