Jeanne Gier Myers Fisher, 98, passed away July 2, 2014. Born in Kansas City, Mo., she moved to Memphis in 1942 as the bride of Dr. Roland Myers. She was president of the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Auxiliary, Madonna Circle, Cenacle Retreat League and the Newcomer’s Club. She served on the boards of the Friends of The Public Library, the Seidman Lecture series, St. Peter’s Children’s Home and Brooks Art Gallery League. She hosted a radio program, Challenge to Read, for the public library, and she co-hosted television programs for WKNO. She served on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and was a trustee at Christian Brothers University, on the Memphis State Foundation Board and the Chancellor’s Board of the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. She was chosen as a member of Women Who Make a Difference in Memphis, received the Distinguished Service award from Memphis State University. She served on Theatre Memphis’ board and was a member of the panel of American Women. The Commercial Appeal named her one of its Thousand Points of Light. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Roland Myers and Clarence H. Fisher and a son, Newton C. Myers. She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Roland Myers (Beverly) of Franklin, Tn. and Michael Carter Myers (Charlene) of Memphis, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Marianne Carr of Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. There will be a private graveside service for the family at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Louis Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
